The Office of the Commissioner of Probation of Massachusetts sent out a press release in September 2010 to coincide with the annual Boston Caribbean Carnival. Probation officers from Suffolk County were present at the festival to scan the crowd to identify individuals wanted for probation violation. The officers also started the Late Night Probation initiative, designed to remove violent offenders and gang youth from the streets. This operation lasted all night into the next morning. These two programs enabled Suffolk County probation officers to help the Boston Police Department to keep the residents of Suffolk County and Boston safe.
